Agricultural Lands Conservation Program Under Way

The Texas Farm and Ranch Lands Conservation Council held its first meeting as part of the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department after being transferred from the Texas General Land Office.

A longhorn stops at a water source on the 311,000-acre Big Bend State Park Ranch in the Chihuahuan Desert of West Texas. Texas Parks and Wildlife Department has recently sold off about two-thirds of the herd to build a smaller pasture to display the remaining animals.

The Texas Farm and Ranch Lands Conservation Council held its first meeting as part of the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department after being transferred from the Texas General Land Office. The program grants funds to purchase long-term conservation easements on high value working lands at risk of development, and is currently taking applications until Feb. 19 to be considered at the council's March 2 meeting. (Hill Country Alliance)
