Crownover Turns Attack Into Charity Drive

State Rep. Myra Crownover, R-Denton, turned a critical campaign mailer into a promotion for free coffee and a fundraising drive for a local charity.

State Rep. Myra Crownover, R-Lake Dallas, appears angry as she talks with a colleague during postponment of critical budget-related bills on May 18, 2011.

Texans for Fiscal Responsibility is backing candidates in several Republican primary races. In Denton, the group is hoping to replace state Rep. Myra Crownover, R-Denton, with Read King and sent out a mailer to voters in Crownover's district criticizing her record.

Crownover response was to turn lemons into lemonade.

"Did you receive a yellow mail piece from Texans for Fiscal Responsibility this week?" Crownover wrote on Facebook yesterday. "Bring that S.I.L.L.Y. (Special Interest Lying Lobbyist Yellowcard) Card into Juniper House Coffee between now and Election Day to receive a free cup of coffee! Myra Crownover will donate $1 to the charity Serve Denton for every SILLY card collected."

Texans need truth. Help us report it.
