Updated: Panel Discusses UT System Records Request

At Tuesday’s inaugural hearing of the 83rd legislative session’s Joint Select Committee on Higher Education Governance, Excellence and Transparency, Sen. Kel Seliger, R-Amarillo, and Rep. Dan Branch, R-Dallas, elaborated on the intentions of their recent open records request of the University of Texas System.
The request appeared to be tied in large part to the system’s requests of the University of Texas at Austin. Seliger said that the requested information should be available for regents but that the committee wants to make sure it is being gathered and used appropriately.

This is about the worst idea I can think of. I used to work for the Document and Records Management section in UT System Administration. It is a very, very small team in an already understaffed and underbudgeted department. It's going to be hell on some of my former colleagues, and I sympathize heavily with them.

Impeach them now, before they can do further damage. The regents are simply trying to run the clock out until the legislature adjourns. We need accountability and transparency on the influence exerted by unaccountable organizations on the Board of Regents. I'm more interested in the refusal of Powell, Cranberg, Hall and Pejovich to respond to the prior open record request. Hope they haven't deleted anything after receiving the request. That would be criminal.

UT will soon have a new President. The votes are there and Regents hardly are scared of a bunch of back water State Legislators. Especially Judith Zaffirini, the greek who masquerades as a Hispanic.
