For Cornyn, Right Turn Could Be Defensive Play
After more than a decade representing blood-red Texas in the U.S. Senate, John Cornyn finds himself in an unusual spot: burnishing his conservative credentials.
One would think the senior Texas senator’s reputation would be secure: Cornyn, who has ascended to minority whip, spent two election cycles as chairman of the Senate’s Republican campaign fundraising arm, and National Journal last week ranked him second in its 2012 list of the most conservative senators.
But with the departure of Kay Bailey Hutchison, his more moderate fellow Texas Republican, and the arrival of the state’s unabashed new junior senator ...

There was a time when the Republican Party was able to keep the paranoid John Birch society types in the basement. Now we elect the crazy John Birch people to office. Might I suggest to Senator Cornyn a tried and true classic. Start having hearings on whether there are communists in the State Department. You could also include Harvard in that, since your colleague, the crazy Cuban, seems to have doubled down on this assertion. Remember, no position is too extreme for your primary electorate, so go for it.

Mr. Cornyn, I would listen to Karl Rove's advice and do the exact opposite of what he suggest! He is no conservative by any means!

Hilarious. As Cruz continues to embarrass himself and the state nationally, the centrifugal force of the right-wing juggernaut will continue to take the party straight down the drain.

Vote him OUT

Further evidence Cornyn's values exist to keep him in power, not do what's right by the state and the nation. Why is this man in office?

There has been no shift in Cornyn's policies or politics. He does and has done what is right for the State and Nation.

Cornyn has to go and anyone who backs are apart of the Good Ole Boy system.

OK on one hand he is spineless and without character and on the other he is nothing more than a poltico blowing with the wind and without character. Either way he needs the boot.

Matthew, of all the idiotic comments you've made, and there have been far too many, these two really expose your ignorance and bigotry.

Yes! John Cornyn has put on his white face, strapped a six-shooter on his hip, raised the confederate flag and turned on country music to make himself over. John Cornyn has no character now as he crossed over the the dark side. Radical right-winged extremism is pulling middle-of-the-roaders further right to garner TEA party extreme votes. Within that same group are John Birchers(B-1), Birthers(B-2), Evangelicals(E), Libertarians(L) who all have their own issues to hawk to the reducing number of "white folk." The changing ethnic demographics and review of voter disenfranchisement by the federal courts and gerrymandering of districts will bring Texas into the swing state and then blue. All the top dogs of the TEA-quest-traitor coalition who have career resumes will be reduced to former fellows of Dairy Queen and avid chaser of laser pointers. And then there's Ted Cruz. Ted Cruz is not a Republican! Ted Cruz is a Canadian TEA-quest-traitor masquerading as an American. Ted Cruz is a TEA party fringe element seeped in bigotry and prejudice using his Hispanic name to gain Hispanic votes. Ted Cruz is neither smart or fearless, but rather tart and useless. His brash attitude and raging mouth has already alienated both parties. This man could never represent the Hispanic populous, because he doesn't command their allegiance or respect. Texans have split their vote between the afore mentioned groups and that is the beginning of Texas turning blue. Is the Stately, Sonorous, Silver-haired Senator is -gasp- SWEATING! What image will he don for the 2014 primary: Fiery, snake-eyed ax-wielding budget-chopping teabagger or lofty Statesman leading his conservative Senatorial flock from Congressional cloudtops? I suspect he will don both images; former for the primary then latter for the foregone election. -Amused Libertard Demorat with Intact Head
