Early Into His Tenure, Villalba Makes His Stands
State Rep. Jason Villalba, R-Dallas, sat in his office in the far reaches of the Capitol extension hallways usually reserved for newer lawmakers, and talked about how he found his political inspiration at a young age.
“I say I found Jesus at summer camp when I was 7 years old. I found Ronald Reagan when I was 8 the following year,” said Villalba, 41.
He credited Reagan’s steady but firm leadership in helping him shape his ideals.
When faced with potentially contentious issues, “I always ended up believing in what the Republicans were saying,” said Villalba, a lawyer whose ...

If he is a little too liberal for Mr Sullivan, he ought to be just right for Texas.

Not sure someone can be "too moderate" but moderation is what we need in Texas right now. I love that he said he is serving all of the people of his district even those that didn't vote for him. I hope that's genuine and that he's listening to everyone back home. If he doesn't like Obamacare and wants to dismantle it, then what are his alternatives to the millions of Texans that don't have access to great health care plans? Wish he would talk more about his ideas on a comprehensive "education reform" plan that would restore the drastic cuts by The governor.

MQS: disagreements are allowable. What horseshit. Sullivan is the leader of the jihadi republicans.

I'm Hispanic and he doesn't represent me. Thank you Jesus for that. He does NOT represent the values oh Hispanics in Texas. Rolling my eyes.

What mature thinking. And he's learned nothing since?

People dont care what you say until you show them you care. Social sin is happening and republicans give it the cold shoulder too often.

Crazy Cruz is going to be the loud mouth that the world will see, trying to give Texas a bad name.

And if you actually consider what GOP is these days, Mr. Villalba, you would notice that your hero Ronald Reagan would be too centrist/moderate for today's Teabagging Republicans and Reagan may not get elected to any post of any prominence today.

I found Thomas Jefferson when I was 9, but I don't wear a white wig. Reagan's time has come and gone. GOP is out of touch with people and reality.

And so are the Dems.

Glass Houses, Jim. JFK could not get elected by today's Democratic party given his advocacy for supply-side economic policies although he would fit right in socially with such modern Democratic icons as Robert Menendez and would have probably have loved to join him on one of his recent trips to the Dominican Republic.

Wow. He's a joke. He is not popular with Dallas Hispanics, I would know, considering I'm one of them.

Alternatives to Obama care? Easy answer. Do not force those who do not want health care to get policies. Enroll children into existing programs. Recover the billions wasted on medicare fraud. Reduce cost of prescriptions by eliminating advertising. Those two items will create enough savings to cover those who need it.

He may be sincere but I've noticed how the GOP loves to show off their minority elected officials. It's not hard, there aren't many.

Intolerant much Cliff?

Felipe, what are the "Hispanic values" you mention?
And Debbie...what is it you like about Julian Castro other than his looks, Hispanic heritage, and ability to read a TelePrompTer well? What else is there? The answer...Nada. He is a Not Ready for Primetime player...along with George P.
