Ah yes, the same old argument that gambling could pay for education. Haven't we heard that before?!
If that worked, wouldn't Lousiana have top notch schools. How about Louisiana's roads? Have you driven on those lately? Hard to say gambling helps that either.
Instead of more gambling, how about repealing the Lottery and get the state to stop preying on the most vulnerable Texans? Lets bring real economic growth that keeps money in the state, not ship the profits to Las Vegas casino owners like Mr. Pratt and his buddies.

I hope what ever bill passes the bill includes poker. It would be a sad day if gambling legislation goes though without including the game of TEXAS Hold'em.

Put riverboat gambling on Sabine Lake and Port Arthur would actually be worth living in.

Hey Joel, nobody wants to see you sell your wares on the Trib website. Go to Craigslist if you want to do that. This is a venue for public policy and Texas politics.

There'll be no gambling because the Southern Baptist Church always knows best how to run other people's lives. Of course they're all sneaking across the border to OK and LA to gamble.

The casinos in around Texas borders supply each of those states with billions of Texas dollars. Prohibiing Texas Gaming enterprises does not stop casino gaming. During the last session of the Texas Congress I touched base on increased crime rates (none); new employment for upwards of 2,000 men and women earning an average of $40K per year; Ten casinos along major thoroughfares (but out of the cities) would increase visitor income from fuel, food, and souvenir sales as folks visited our Casinos or from Texans taking a day off. I touched on the common assertion that the Bible forbids gambling...there are No Biblical Verses denouncing gambling. Texas consistently has a need for more income to meet education and health needs of Texans. Billions of dollars can be retained in Texas if we have full-fledged casinos. All I asked my legislators for was to allow the people of Texas to decide for themselves and not be dictated to by minority pressures. At last count there are some 70% of Texans who want to allow casino and race-track gaming in Texas.
