UT Regents to Meet Over Coaching Scandals
The University of Texas System regents have called a special meeting on Sunday to discuss recent coaching scandals at the system's flagship university, the University of Texas at Austin.
On Friday, UT-Austin Athletic Director DeLoss Dodds issued a statement revealing that Major Applewhite, the co-offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach, was involved in "inappropriate, consensual behavior with an adult student one time during the 2009 Fiesta Bowl activities."

How do you get "recent" out of two things that happened in 2009 and a decade ago, respectively? We are in 2013.

^Recent because UT only brought them to everyone's attention very very recently.

NO ... Major got off with a wrist-slap and then UT covered the whole thing up.

IMHO the real issue isn't did Major get appropriate punishment. No, the real question is: Are the punishments that were handed down in Bev and Major's case comprable? Because IMHO, those are not.
And that is the problem.

As far as Tip of the iceberg, why do you say that?

From what I've read, Major Applewhite's incident was one time and reported to the Athletic Dept where punishment and counseling were handed out and completed three years ago. It was an HR issue and not public record until the Bev Kearney lawsuit was filed. In the Bev Kearney situation, her mistakes were with one of HER athletes (unlike Major) and, as I understand, it carried on for more than a year and was never reported as per policy to the Athletic Dept. Therefore the actions of the UT Athletic Dept were and should be different. Apples and Oranges, BUT I'm guessing Kearney's settlement will probably be bigger now than before. Disappointing to hear this about Major any way you slice it.

One standard for men and women..... One time, yeah sure

As long as the students are not underage and the staff member reports as per school policy there shouldn't be any punishment.

"adult student"....that says all you need to know. If the President of the U.S. can have consensual sex with an intern, I would think somewhat of a precedent has been set. Besides, when confronted, I doubt Major lied about it.

Dodds is done. Mack Brown will likely "retire." UT community will be much happier.
However, I am worried about is the BOR trying to push President Powers out of office and instill their own political agenda.
