Texas has not planned a reservoir since the late 1950's and the last of them to built were finished in the 1980's. Reservoirs were of the 1950's was in response to the drought at the time. Texas does not have any natural lakes. We depend on river flow and groundwater. Some parts of the sate get more rain than others. Transfering that water from one basin to another or region is a daunting task that has been studied since the mid 1960's. The problem is the cost. Texas has developed many water plans sine the 1960's but cost is what stops implementation. Now that we have experienced some of the worst droughts since the 1950's Texas must plan for how we get water for its agricultural industry, its growing population.
The Texas Water Development Board has done a great job with managing water over the decades. This funding will go a long way to solving the problems Texas faces.
