The Big Conversation
A major new federal immigration proposal has corralled bipartisan support, but Texas Republicans aren't biting.
The proposal — unveiled Monday by a group of four Republican and four Democratic U.S. senators — includes a pathway to citizenship for undocumented immigrants and increased border security. The unveiling came a day before President Barack Obama is expected to lay out a plan of his own that is said to be moderately more liberal than the senators' proposal.
But in Texas, the senators' proposal isn't winning much GOP support. Both of the state's U.S. senators, Republicans John ...

It's hard to take Ted Cruz seriously.
Mary Morrison via Texas Tribune on Facebook
I have deep concerns with anything Cruz might say, because it is likely to be inconsistent with any kind of intelligent thought.
Jalapeño Schwartz via Texas Tribune on Facebook
No one should take Ted Cruz seriously, he is a lobby puppet.
Frank Kenisky via Texas Tribune on Facebook
Two complete fools who are banking on your stupidity and being banked by the same guys GW bailed out. Just looking at these pix I can hear the excuses and hate pouring out of that gap in their faces.
Daniel Lopez via Texas Tribune on Facebook
why the hatred towards Cruz? yall just attack him but dont provide a reason.
Pun Nio via Texas Tribune on Facebook
Cruz can have his opinions. Since when did the GOP consider "fairness?" what a joke.
John Cobarruvias via Texas Tribune on Facebook
Cruz needs to go back to Canada. Ey?
Felipe Gutierrez via Texas Tribune on Facebook
Not even worth writing about. You didn't inform us of anything we didn't know already. Just saying.
Shelly Brisbin via Texas Tribune on Facebook
Remember when Texas and Texas politicians were forward-looking on immigration? As opposed to the rest of the border states? And I don't just mean Democrats.
Marco A Ochoa Jr via Texas Tribune on Facebook
The same guys GW bailed were :-) subsequently bailed out by Obama & Tim Geithner. How forgetful of some of the comments.

Cruz is Sarah Palin

If Cruz doesn't like it, that is a sure sign it is the right and proper thing to do.
Kathi Thomas via Texas Tribune on Facebook
They're scared if these folks become citizens, they wouldn't vote for a Party that has done so much recently to marginalize brown people.:(
Marco A Ochoa Jr via Texas Tribune on Facebook
I guess the immigration rules depend on which party you support. All those suckers from all over the world are SOL for being naive enough to apply and wait years for their immigration visa.
Judy Raddue via Texas Tribune on Facebook
I'll believe Cruz when he stands up, announcing that illegal Cuban immigrants will be immediately deported.

@Daniel, Here are some reasons:
He repeatedly denounced Barack Obama as the “most radical president” in American history and promoted in spectacular fashion one of the elections big lies: that Barack Obama is waging a war on religious freedom. Obama, he said, was telling American Catholics to “change your religious beliefs or I will use my power as president to shut down your hospitals.” That's simply not true and a talking point from his corporatist handlers such as Dick Armey.
Cruz’s policy positions are what you would expect for a man backed by both the religious right and the Koch right. He is a hard-core opponent of reproductive choice who backed Rick Perry’s push to defund Planned Parenthood – and Perry’s dishonest attempt to portray the resulting crisis of access to healthcare for more than 130,000 poor women as a consequence of the Obama administration playing politics.
Part of Cruz’s electoral appeal is his story about his hard-working immigrant father, who fled Cuba and put himself through college washing dishes. (Cruz describes his father as having fought in the Cuban revolution and been imprisoned and tortured; his dad left Cuba in 1957, well before Castro’s forces ousted the dictator Batista, but Cruz probably benefits from keeping it vague enough that people assume his father fled Castro’s tyranny.) Cruz is quite consciously following in the path of Marco Rubio, another son of Cuban immigrants who got to the Senate after beating a more establishment GOP candidate with Tea Party backing. Cruz’s ambitions, however, will stop short of the presidency, since he was born in Canada. Thank God.
IMHO, Cruz to Hispanics is like Otto the Orkin Man to roaches, don't trust him, he want's to support his monied handlers and cares less about what your needs as a citizen taxpayer are.

I kinda don't likem either, just sumtin about him.

Yea Cruz !
Sergio Jaramillo via Texas Tribune on Facebook
Ted Cruz believes in nullification. He's so far right he doesn't represent the majority of people of Texas on most issues. WHen people start to vote based on position rather than party line, they will stop electing candidates like him. The dallas morning news embraced his democratic candidate over him, citing that this guy would be a complete partisan
Cindy Bass James via Texas Tribune on Facebook
R we surprised?
Chuck Waldrep via Texas Tribune on Facebook
I thought Cruz was Canadian born?
Sergio Jaramillo via Texas Tribune on Facebook
I'm not saying I may become a "birther", but if this guy is ever taken seriously in the national stage, I wanna see his birth certificate! lol Yes , he was born in Canada but he's a "natural born citizen"

No one cares what the state's bigoted Senators think or say.
Arthur M. Thomas IV via Texas Tribune on Facebook
That is an extremely poor argument on Cruz's part. Millions more have to suffer because the law was broken? Yes, everyone must go through the federal hazing ritual because thats the 'fair' thing to do.
We fix laws because they are broken. We don't keep them around because other people had to suffer under them.

Ted Cruz is a Canadian by birth and a TEA party bigot by training. His Hispanic name does not qualify him to make changes to the original Dream Act and his efforts to water-down the original Dream Act show the narrow concepts he has towards those who have family in the states. His version of the Dream Act creates multiple layers of citizenship and too many hoops to jump through for undocumented's to be able to attain citizenship. Ted Cruz is a TEA-type and has openly railed against amnesty and inclusion. John McCain, Marco Rubio, Jeff Flake and Lindsey Graham are all TEA-types and suspect at the very least. The Dream Act was ready in 2007 and scheduled for vote in 2010 and the TEA-Republicans intentionally held it back. TEA-type are dead-set on doing what they can to limit the federal government every way they can. TEA-types like Ted Cruz and John Cornyn of Texas show their bigotry and prejudice and desire to keep America white. In fact Ted Cruz is too closely associated with the likes of Paul Ryan, Todd Akin, Roger Rivard, Rick Berg, Richard Mourdock and John Koster(all R) who wanted to define rape and demean women. Ted Cruz is too closely associated with Birthers(B), Evangelicals(E), Libertarians(L) and TEA-types(T) have used the scarlet (R) when running for office across the land. Texans must take a good look at themselves and the actions of those currently representing them in Washington.

Cornyn and Cruz represent the majority of us Texas citizens. That's how they are elected. If you illegal alien lovers don't like it....too bad! U R here illegally and that is the fact!

@Sergio Jaramillo: No intention to offend ; How about asking Obama to show his Original birth certificate and all personal documents locked up in an untouchable safe???Not the manufactured birth certificate posted on line.
If Ted Cruz was born in Canada , it makes him a * Naturalized U.S. Citizen * and he can be a Senator.
Only a Natural Born ,that is a person born in the U.S. from a mother and father both born in the U.S.can be POTUS.
That is the Law of the Land. What is the problem with all of you here ??? Complaining, bashing,a lobby poppet, fools, what a joke, and on and on ; I believe Ted Cruz is much better than K.B.Hutchison that retired with 174.000$$a year for life and all undeclared benefits. Ted Cruz opposes Obama`s 11 million pathway to citizenship for illegal aliens ; is that wrong ???? You can`t go and stay in a foreign country without permission; try and see what the consequences are. What is the reason and purpose of having laws and rules ??? All you have to do is jump the fence and you are good to go; They Feed you, medicals, education, social benefits ; IRS tells Illegals how to collect 11000$$ and join the unemployment lines.Do yo approve all this garbage ???? Our taxes at work ??? Spending Wasting Giving ???? How all of you accept the idea that anyone can vote when the Law states that only U.S.Citizens can vote??? All of you here please : what is it that you want ???? This is our Country don`t you think ??? It is our Land and we are in charge; the government is the Servent of the People, remember??? Once this Nation was One Nation of One People Under One God ; today I see a Nation of Corruption, Decadence, Sex Drugs Rap ,No God and God offends, Racial conflicts a Young Nation of 200+ years going down the drain and we Americans becoming oppressed and Freedom lost.
Please , Please , all of you stop it ; instead offer a solution , ideas , do something , working together in armony to solve the Problems here;forget Dem.and Rep. they are all alike ; their pay check and interests are first; they could care less about us. So I say United we Stand and United we are the people and the Power, standing with the Constitution of the U.S. nothing more nothing less. It is the Best Constitution on the Planet. Thank you and Bless you all. Sorry for my mistakes, not a professor or computer genius here, just a Free man in a Free State of Texas.

You were sent to represent your voter's view; not your own!

So Cubans did and do get to jump into the head of the immigration line and somehow that's OK with Cruz? What a hypocrite.
Laura Watts Kinnison via Texas Tribune on Facebook
Cruz' father is a Cuban immigrant, and his mother is American. He was born in Calgary, Canada. In any event, he is an embarassment to Texas!
Judy McKee via Texas Tribune on Facebook
You were sent to represent the people of Texas! Are you running for reelection or are you trying to help your constituents?

@ Meme Me - Honestly, your comments are hateful and xenophobic. For the record, most of us "illegal alien lovers" are here legally. I suggest you enjoy your pandering, race baiting, reactionary senators (note small 's') while you can. This state's demographics are changing and in the not too distant future the state voters are going to remember Cruz and Cornyn as the race baiting, homophobic bigots, pandering to the far right senators they are and drive them from office.
Dale Curry
@ raffaele cafagna - In case you are unaware, the President has shown his birth certificate, both long and short form. To continue asking this question or assert this idea of non-citizenship, is racist and deeply offensive to others. History will judge you as a hate filled bigot who refuses to address reality.
