Hundreds Crowd Capitol to "Rally for Life"
The state's Republican leaders each took turns at the microphone on Saturday afternoon to rouse what Gov. Rick Perry called a record crowd at the annual Texas Rally for Life. Attendees marched up Congress Avenue to the state Capitol to hear from nearly a dozen speakers who encouraged them to continue their fight to end abortion.

Record crowd? It's a couple of hundred people in a state of 25 million. By polling, Texas is slightly pro-choice. Why is this lightly attended exercise in right-wing advocacy statewide news? I couldn't even argue for it to be a brief in the Austin paper.

Perry's record indicates he has an incredible disdain for life. He's executed innocent people, tried to keep people from getting health care and birth control, and tried to make his religious beliefs state law. Lot of hypocrisy at this rally.

It is not possible to end abortion. It is possible to end safe, legal abortion. But the need for abortion will continue and so will the act. Abortion was the leading cause of death among women of childbearing age prior to the Roe decision. I see the determined look on the faces of these Republicans, leaders, and followers, and am utterly convinced that facts will not sway them from their course of action. Their self regard as paragons of virtue is all empowering. They are willfully enmeshed in the assault on a woman’s right to self determination.

There were thousands there. Shame on TT for being so misleading

Give it up rick. Tea Party ain't gonna get you elected for anything. The fact that you are for everything that is against caring for Texans is very clear. Against gun control, women's rights, right to CHOOSE--advocate for death penalty, overpayment to yourself and the State Troopers that guard you. What are you afraid of? You don't have a clue, and you are definitely last years news, if even that. Even where you go to pray is a bit scary for the rest of the world. Holy Mole. Nuff said. P.S. We know what your "Hundreds of People" means. Just about all those shown in this photo op. Sour faced hatemongers.

There were thousands who participated in the Austin rally yesterday. I was there and took pictures. Thanks for covering the rally but it seems you attempted to downplay the size of the crowd on purpose. I can tell you why the crowds are smaller in Texas. In San Francisco, the rallies are huge as in D.C. because pro-life protections are minimal in those areas and the people are showing their dismay. In Texas abortion restrictions are manifold and most Texans who value life starting in the womb know that. Abortion is killing 1 in 4 of future Americans who will not be around to save Medicare and your sacrosanct government entitlements. The day of reckoning is coming.
We're proud of Perry and his administration for what they've done to limit the killing of the innocent in Texas. Abortion and contraceptives are not health care. A pregnant woman is not sick! In fact abortifacient contraceptives harm women's health! The real hypocrisy is in the pro-abortion movement. By the way, Governor Perry does not execute innocent people. Someone commenting here needs a civic course on the branches of government and the process by which the TX Board of Pardons recommends commutation to the Gov. He cannot bypass the process.
