Heaven forbid we educate children out of the GOPTP slush fund.

Is that because only liberals pay their bills?

so tedious and disingenuous.

only a neocon thinks a rainy day fund is more important than educating our youth.

Only a terminally incompetent boob would find a way to lose to whacko Cruz in a primary after spending years in statewide office and a zillion squillion dollars of his own money on his campaign

Again with the argument that the last session increased funding to schools? I hope he's wearing fireproof pants.
Martha Dunkelberger via Texas Tribune on Facebook
or, you know, someone who gives a damn about education.
Matt Sims via Texas Tribune on Facebook
well then how about some taxpayer refund checks?

No. A liberal wouldn't have made the draconian cuts in public education in the first place. These guys only care about their wealthy buddies who send their kids to private schools and don't feel they should have to pay for public schools even though they benefit from a work force primarily educated in public schools.

Guys like this sure know how to take contributions from corporations and help them like they should help everyday citizens, including school children.

ROFLOL is all I can say.... He is worthless.
Matthew Gonzalez via Texas Tribune on Facebook
You spent the last two sessions cutting education and now that you recover some of the money it goes to the Rainy Day Fund?

What a fool Dewhurst is!

Only an idiot would keep short changing public schools.

If only a liberal would ask such a question, only a jackass would reply in such a manner.

I do not believe he is getting a full load of Oxygen to his brain.

By saying we should hold money back for the lawsuit, he acknowledges that the state is underfunding education. But, he won't step up and do the right thing until the courts make him do it. Truly visionary leadership.

They are ruining our educational system. Our beautiful state is going away.
Robert Adams via Texas Tribune on Facebook
The deliberate dumbing down of Texas, as if that needed help.

When Perry and Dewhurst can find a way to channel more of those dollars through their donors, we'll have more education funding. For now the new definition of education funding may well be paying 1/2 of CHL courses for teachers.

...instead we should give oil companies more tax breaks i guess!

The Lotto was started to fun d schools. Money was diverted from what was normally school budgets. How many dollars of the lotto is now used for school budgets? How much of what was normal money for school budgets has been cut back/ Which career politician benefited most? How long will Texans allow the backward thinking TEA-types run this great state?

Democrats...please go to work to get rid of these strange people...turn Texas blue.

Only a dumb ass conservative would have cut education in the first place

What an idiot

I have 3 words for Dewhurst: Kiss my ass!

Most politicians eventually master the art of taking 10 minutes to say nothing. Dewdrop isn't there yet. Amateur.

Tribune is now trolling the internet

While an idiot would keep shortchanging schools, it takes a bigger idiot to keep electing them. Continuous cuts to our public education system is allowing the GOP to prevent the future electorate from being educated. When you have an educated electorate, they can then figure out when you're trying to pull a fast one.
Angela Cowan- Groves via Texas Tribune on Facebook
They stole that money from education to begin with! Thieves...stealing from children.
Jack Lacy via Texas Tribune on Facebook
Disgusting.
Rebecca Book Warnick via Texas Tribune on Facebook
Liberals aren't the only ones who have disdain for Dewhurst. If Dewhurst, Perry, and their friends keep this up it won't be long before many of the people they think of as supporters won't be able to stomach voting for them, even with an R after their names.
Dale Curry
Only a conservative would distort the debate by beginning his comments attacking "liberals". Guess one has to go with what works when your entire record is a failure. Like Bigfoot, liberalism has little voice in our government, and attempt to blame the Utter and complete failure of our school system on anyone other than tea party rhetoric and republican dogma is just lies and propaganda.
Sorry Lt. Governor Dewhurst, but the truth is that since 94 this state has been lead by your party. And our rankings as last in education, lack in healthcare access for the poor and last in the number in insured, and.....well you get the message. You broke it sir, you have bought it. And sometime within the next 4-8 years your party will pay dearly!
