Cornyn, R-Texas, told the Houston Chronicle's editorial board on Thursday that Congress wouldn't let the federal government default next month.
"We will raise the debt ceiling. We're not going to default on our debt," Cornyn said, adding, "I will tell you unequivocally, we're not going to default."
Cornyn's comments came amid another heated fight over the nation's borrowing limit, which many congressional Republicans have intended to use as leverage to ...

The Senator is right because they have no choice. As long as Republican leaders continue to let the Democrats off the hook on passing a budget they are going to get creamed.

WORDS and they do what?
Jake Thomas via Texas Tribune on Facebook
NOPE. Quit raising the debt ceiling for the debt that my grand-kids will payoff.

Do yo folks have any clue what could happen to our economy and possibly your own personal livelihood and retirement and personal bank account and on and on and on if WE, as a country, default? Just do some research and sit down and breathe and think about it for a minute.
Mary Morrison via Texas Tribune on Facebook
Unfortunately, Cornyn is my senator. I hope he means it, but even if he does, we'll pay a price one way or another. He doesn't do anything without an ulterior motive.
Martha Dunkelberger via Texas Tribune on Facebook
Finally, I can agree with something he's said.
Joe Estep via Texas Tribune on Facebook
They create a problem and then they rush in and save us from it. WOW! This would be funny if it were not real. Think. This is not the first one. These 545 folks have got to go.

No & he will see what Texans think about his voting record in 2014......
Shelly Brisbin via Texas Tribune on Facebook
"Support" the senator? It isn't his idea. The fact that this is even being discussed is a result of recalcitrance on the part of the GOP wing nut wing. Pay the bills you've already incurred, THEN work on ways to address the debt. Hint: you'll need to work with the MAJORITY on that one.
Graciela Trevino Gonzales via Texas Tribune on Facebook
Let's see: first spend irresponsibly, blame everyone else, then get yourselves out of the very mess you created? Yep, about par these days...

John Cornyn should resign immediately. He is nothing more than a hyper-partisan Republican who only represents his party, and not his constituents.
Steven Felfe via Texas Tribune on Facebook
Let it default then have all those 3rd party debt collectors hound them 24-7. let the senators and Congreasemen pay the tab.
John Lyon via Texas Tribune on Facebook
Congress should ensure the country can pay for the spending Congress authorized.

The same group of idiots that we are depending upon to solve our nation's debt crisis!
Judy Burns via Texas Tribune on Facebook
Surprisingly, I do agree with him. The debt ceiling issue is not about incurring new debt; it is about paying what we've already run up.

Cornyn said THAT? Is he becoming a voice or reason or does he just seem that way when compared to that idiot Ted Cruz?
Blair Cherry via Texas Tribune on Facebook
Just keep spending and spending and spending until we are bankrupt. We need a new political party.
Tim Spotswood via Texas Tribune on Facebook
I have a 3 step plan that will fix this, without raising the debt. 1. Cut spending. 2. Cut Spending. 3. Cut Spending. It worked for the budget at my house, and I think it is what we need as a country.
raffaele cafagna
It's time for Congress to heed the voice of fiscal conservatives and make the right decision in this eleventh hour by pushing to substantially reduce the cost of the grossly over-sized Washington.
Do not offer taxes - offer spending cuts! IN THE LAST YEAR YOU HAVE PROVIDED DIRECT CASH AID TO: Hamas - 351 Million,> > Libya 1.45 Billion, >> > Egypt - 397 M,> >> > Mexico - 622 M, >> > Russia - 380 M, >> > Haiti - 1.4 B, >> > Jordan - 463 M,>> > Kenya - 816 M, > Sudan - 870 M,> > Nigeria - 456 M,> > Uganda - 451 M,> > Congo - 359 M,> > Ethiopia - 981 M, > Pakistan - 2 B,> > South Africa - 566 M,> > Senegal - 698 M,>> > Mozambique - 404 M,>> > Zambia - 331 M, > Kazakhstan - 304 M,> > Iraq - 1.08 B,>> > Tanzania - 554 M, : EPA costs US economy $353 billion per year -- A gift of 20 new F 16 given to Egypt . money for failed green energy companies, chevy volts, abortions, gays getting married at West Point and of course obamanotcare or HELLCARE , Also, we have plenty of funds to spend on TSA agents to search little toddlers and old ladies in wheel chairs on a daily basis! to the Welfare, Food Stamps, Medicaid or "Obama phone" programs, wasted BILLIONS of dollars on crony-connected, "green energy" boondoggles that failed miserably ; all the ACORN affiliates/umbrella groups got tons of money to make sure the welfare bums made it to the polling places.....; increased foreign aid by 80%, each year Billions of our tax dollars to just about every country in the world now. Over $300 Billion is spent on illegal aliens each year. Billions spent on some of the most stupid grant studies, WHY ASIAN WOMEN HAVE SEX WHEN THEY ARE DRUNK , A SHRIMP ON A TREADMILL ,WHY A BEE FLIES and on and on. There are so much nonsense they spend our money on. But THEY quietly LET FEDERAL FUNDING FOR SEVERAL KEY SCHOOL SECURITY PROGRAMS LAPSE IN THE NAME OF BUDGET SAVINGS . As a Senator, Cornyn has pandered to the monied and special interest to a level that could only be surpassed by our failure of a Governor. On this issue, he would appear to be on the side of the good of the nation. Thank you Senator.

Cave in before the battle starts Cornyn.
C.g. David via Texas Tribune on Facebook
John Cornyn helped draft the Economic Development Hand Book in Texas when AG, it also has no teeth to stop fraud and waste. I would never support Cornyn or anyone he supports just on the EDC Hand Book alone. His office wouldn't even respond to emails that I sent.

Self control is what we need and for the White House to stop murdering unborn children if President Obama is interested in saving children@!
Greg Ellis via Texas Tribune on Facebook
They will never default, they will just print more money. Its stupid to suggest default is an option, and even stupider to suggest we won't pay veterans or social security. Maybe we should pass a law that says Congress gets paid last.

What's the senators position?
Cynthia Casper Robertson via Texas Tribune on Facebook
One of the few intelligent comments forthcoming from Cornyn.

And to those so very concerned with spending. Welcome to the party, I have been concerned since Bush took us to deficit and trillion dollar deficit spending at that.
