Policy Shift in Mexico Seen as Push for Sovereignty
Security initiatives recently announced by the Mexican government suggest that the country may move to reaffirm its sovereignty and focus less on the interests of the U.S. and other foreign countries, a former assistant special agent at the Department of Homeland Security said.
David Ramirez, who also worked in Texas as a U.S. Border Patrol agent and later as the director of investigations for Latin America and the Caribbean at the U.S. Embassy in Mexico City, said a government’s priority should be the safety of its people and stability, and Mexico is no different.

Of course Mexico should focus more on its internal security for its citizens being killed with American guns. And the USA should face up to its century-old hypocrisy regarding drug laws.

Mexico should prioritize it's own citizens just as the US should prioritize their's. I presume this also means that the Merida Initiative will no longer be funded.

“I am looking at it as someone who worked the border for 30 years,” he said. “As a country, Mexico has to take care of its people and say ‘I don’t have to please any other country but I have to please my citizens.’”
Too bad our Government has never had this attitude. A policy of appeasement has been the norm towards Mexico. But they have never tried to stop the flow of money into Mexico from the drug trade or people working in the U.S. and sending money back into the country.
I wonder how they would feel if the U.S. filed briefs in their courts that tried to effect subversion of their laws on behalf of U.S. Citizens in their country? How about all the U.S.Citzens becoming addicted to and being killed by drugs produced in Mexico or transported through Mexico with the help of the Mexican Government and the Military?
And we all know what happens to people who enter Mexico illegally or legally in many cases. You may be subject to imprisonment for any reason and the only way to get released is to pay what amounts to ransom or an extortion fee. Americans in prison in Mexico do not live in such cushy surroundings like the detention centers in the U.S. No TV , no AC,, no recreation rooms,, no three meals a day or even a hard mattress,, no daily showers ,, no medical care, no phone cards or commissary. As we recently saw they chain you to a bed and forget about you.
They really should demand the return of their valuable Citizens who have fled this wonderful utopia and mistakenly wandered unknowingly into such a racist , bigoted , hateful country and save them from further abuse in the United States. We know how valuable they are ,,, since we are told this daily how they are the backbone of our own economy and we could never survive without them.
I wonder why they would not file Amicus Briefs demanding we return these valuable assets?
