Doctors in Women's Health Program Can Discuss Abortion
In a peace offering of sorts to medical and women's groups on Thursday, Texas Health and Human Services Executive Commissioner Kyle Janek announced rules for the new state-run Women's Health Program that permit doctors to discuss abortion with their patients and practice alongside physicians who provide abortions.
“What we wanted was to allow for the one-on-one, private, non-directive counseling between a physician and her patient,” Janek said.
But the new rules have done little to stem the frustration of family planning providers: They come as the state's Republican leaders prepare to run the Women's Health Program ...

i do not understand why people demonize planned parenthood. they have done so much good for women AND men in the state of texas, as well as the rest of the country. planned parenthood has never recieved tax dollars for its abortion services. the accounts were kept separately from each other, and meticulous records had to be kept in order to prove no tax dollars were (accidentally or purposely) going to abortions. as a woman, soon to be without insurance, i am very afraid of what my options will be without pp. i once tried to make an appointment with a similar clinic in the area, and it took six months to get in...and that is WITH a pp in the same city. imagine the influx of patients these other clinics will have to service (or not service, if they can't keep up with demand).
and another thing, what makes law makers think that what goes on between a patient and her doctor is ANY of their business?! conversations are completely confidential, and that trust must be upheld. if a patient doesn't want to go through with her pregnancy, that is no one's business but her own. if you condemn abortion, fine, don't get one. but you can't prevent women from getting referrals or learning about a completely legal, safe procedure.
lawmakers: take note. women are getting angry with your desire to control and chip away at their rights and the supreme court ruling, roe vs. wade. you will soon be without a job, because these women can and will vote.
