PAC Uses Football to Target Voucher Proposals
As they prepare for a battle over school vouchers during the next legislative session, a liberal advocacy group is calling attention to a program that few thought was under immediate threat in Texas: high school football.
In a video called “Will Our Friday Night Lights Go Out,” released today — which features actors Aaron Spivey-Sorrells and Jonathan Palafox from the television show Friday Night Lights — Progress Texas PAC urges Texans to fight school voucher programs.
School voucher programs, they argue in the video, could drain as much as $1 billion from local school district funding. With less funding, schools may be ...

The problem with vouchers is you would give money to so many parents whose kids are already out of the system (like mine were). All the kids already in private schools would drain millions from the public schools before a single child has the chance to get out of the public system. Then the private schools can just raise their fees accordingly if they choose.
But as for this video - who cares. Sports have always gotten the lions share of the extracurricular activities. You can't be in a winning debate team without paying your own way, but a losing football team still gets money for new uniforms. Go to the YMCA.

That is a smart idea, since people can't figure these things out for themselves.

Vouchers would mean the end of public education which is what folks like Patrick want.

I know that sports is NOT the most important part of school, but don't underestimate the motivation it provides for students who would otherwise not a give a rat's tail about attending, much less passing.
Anything that drains money from any part of public education is only going to end up hurting the kids!

Pay for the damn football. Why do we need a school voucher program. speak English and get with the program. If parents want private Montessori and foreign language schools, pay for it.

What is more important our children having the very best schools and teachers or a football game? Do not think twice or one may believe football is all there is.
Americans have no choice but to take the schools back from unions and government. I think once the teachers unions and the government is gone. Parents and teacher can get the job done educate the children and update the schools. All schools should have tablets for every student. Stop printing all those books. I do think one text book for each class room just in case needed. This will be a good thing and a good first step toward advancing our children to the future.

Some Texas schools are not fit to be teaching anyone. The unions prevent lousy teachers from being fired. Vouchers wont help all kids, but it can save some. If your school cannot teach children algebra it doesn't need to teach them the I formation either.

I guess this begs a question: Why would a group supporting public schools fear that thousands of parents would opt out of the system if they had the choice? Just like in football, a little competition might be good for every school, private or public.
