Checkpoints Deter Illegal Immigrants Seeking Abortions
McALLEN — Illegal immigrants who live in the Rio Grande Valley and are seeking an abortion after 16 weeks face a hurdle beyond Texas’ strict laws. They must make a long drive north and face internal border checkpoints.
Since 2003, Texas has required women seeking abortions in their second trimester to go to ambulatory surgical centers, and none exist in the Valley.
Health providers in the Valley say that many such women find out too late that they are pregnant, discover fetal anomalies or are too poor to obtain an abortion in the first 16 weeks. They say the only other ...

The very biased writer left out two options.
1) Don't kill your child and raise him or her
2) Don't kill your child and put it up for adoption

We need better health care in this State.

Internal Border Checkpoints??? Why have a border checkpoint on the Rio Grande if your going to have another on the Neuces River, which is by the way where Mexico claimed the Border was until the conclusion the Mexican-American War. Are we in the process of surrendering the area between the two rivers to Mexico?

I subscribed to this news source because I believed it would be fair, balanced and first about people and lastly about agendas. In this story, as soon as the term "abortion rights" was used, I knew the Constitutional right to life would take a back alley seat to the fabricated right to kill your child. If I had time I would follow the money: "This story was made possible by a grant from Atlantic Philanthropies and was produced as part of New America Media’s Women Immigrants Fellowship Program."
Well, let's just see what we find: Atlantic Philanthropy grants to Planned Parenthood Action Fund Campaign to Defend Women's Health and Rights 2011 $ 400,000
So, no surprise there. Margaret Sanger would be proud of The Texas Tribune!

Drop the I-Word. http://colorlines.com/droptheiword/ Here's why: http://www.texastribune.org/immigration-in-texas/immigration/guest-column-call-them-unauthorized/
If 'undocumented' is good enough for CBS, why not the Texas Tribune?
http://www.cbsatlanta.com/story/19288310/undocumented-immigrants-in-metro-atlanta-apply-to-stay-in-us
It's no answer to say, "We do it because the AP Stylebook says to," or "the New York Times does it."
You owe it to your readers to explain and justify why you think 'illegal' is the better choice of words.
As always, I follow the money: is the Tribune afraid of pissing off advertisers by appearing too liberal if it uses 'undocumented' or 'unauthorized?' If so, say so. Don't hide behind the skirts of AP/NYT.

Actually, the proper legal terms are illegal alien or legal alien.

American are crossing the border South for cheap dental work, or cheap pharmaceuticals , why shouldn't paying Mexicans be allowed to access medical treatment here. They are just customers, like anybody else. Whats worse are the drug company's are trying to stop all drugs from being shipped into the United States from reputable manufacturers.

GOOD GRIEF!!!! Is this story designed to make us feel sorry for more Illegal Aliens who have to go out of their way and experience inconvenience to obtain a service for free at taxpayer expense,, usually,,, that they have no right to in the first place?
I cannot understand why they would want an abortion in the first place. Probably very few do and these are isolated events. An American born child entitles them to many more perks than they would have otherwise. They can now partake of the estimated 7.2 BILLION $ that Illegal Aliens will claim this year in Child tax credits from the IRS. Last year it was 4.2 BILLION $.
It baffles me why Americans who complain that the health system is so bad , underfunded and poorly run ,,,,, would then advocate for Illegal Aliens who disproportionately use up these resources for which they have paid very little or nothing at all. If the law was enforced in the way it should be ,,, then this story would be mute as it relates to Illegal Aliens. Just one more problem they are causing by being here in the first place,,,, now we are debating the issue of Illegal Aliens obtaining abortions. Totally absurd.
It baffles me why Liberals in general always bring up the issue of ' The Children" when promoting their agendas ,, trying to convince everyone the best interest of the children is always their first concern. I would imagine that only applies to those lucky enough to be born and not aborted first.
Which leads me to the belief that they must always be working in concert ,, covertly,, consciously or unconsciously with the non-believers and atheists , who apparently have no template for moral behavior or law other than what religion,,,, which they despise,,,, has provided for them.
If the measure of what is right and wrong,,,,, moral or immoral,,,, by Christian standards,,,, Is asking " What would Jesus do?,,,,,, I seriously doubt abortion for reasons of personal convenience would be high on Jesus's list of things to do.
They advocate for the children,,, but only the ones born. Partial birth abortion,,, late term abortion are perfectly acceptable. How do you pick a day and time ,,,and at that day and time at the stroke of midnight a lump of flesh instantly becomes a human being? The day before it was not,,,, and now it is,, not that it really matters because they can still find justification for aborting it anyway at any stage.
They gather millions of $ to feed starving children in Africa ,, while advocating for abortions of their own population and unborn fellow Citizens. They protest for expanded health services,, education, and subsidized programs for the " living ", while allocating more funds and continuously attempting to expand abortions of unborn future Citizens . Are the rights enumerated in the Constitution ,,, which are God given,,, only obtained or bestowed upon taking your first breath of air? I missed reading that part.
Conservatives and pro life believers are accused of not caring about children , old or poor people, but then again they are not the ones killing them before they are even born.
The better question rather than " What Would Jesus do?",,, might be What Would Jesus say? We who are true believers already know what he would do,,,, and have a fairly good idea of the jest of what he might say. If you claim to be a Christian but find someway to justify your belief in abortion rights ,,, what will be the conversation when you finally get a face to face with God?
Send the Illegals home to their own respective countries and at least the issue of Illegal Aliens and their problems of obtaining abortions in the United States will go away.

there is no better way to prove you are pro-life than by getting rid of an organization that provides life saving medical care to poor women.
