State-Run Women's Health Program Faces Questions
As state officials prepare to take full control of the once federally funded Texas Women’s Health Program on Nov. 1, they’re running into a series of unexpected challenges, from controversy around proposed rule changes to questions about how to cover the 130,000 enrolled clients within the confines of a tight state budget.
The state has pledged to forgo $35 million in annual federal funding — a 9 to 1 match — in order to exclude Planned Parenthood clinics from the program, clinics that have used Women's Health Program dollars to provide contraception and cancer screenings, but not abortions ...

An area where Ms. Davis has come down on the right side of the issue and the reflection of a certain medical center in her district.

Again, we see this "principled" opposition to Planned Parenthood to be based upon lies, rhetoric, and dogma. It is nothing more than the repubs ongoing attempt to control the uterus of all women. I just love the lie they intend to pay for this "stand" by cost cutting. Hmm, to hear the Tparty, they should have already cut that waste out. More proof the Tparty and 'gop are less about fiscal responsibility and more about rhetoric and misrepresentation. Remind me again who was President when we went back in deficit? Hint: not Obama! I especially love the Perry decision to fund this trough the 2013, until after the election. So, this "stand" against Planned Parenthood has been held up by two different courts, is of questionable legality, and will cost our state dearly both financially and in the health of the medically underserved women that Planned Parenthood effectively and efficiently treated.

How can anyone in good conscience vote for a party that devalues women so much?
Anya Khan
pp cares more about providing abortions than it does women's health care.
Samdavis
That's just ignorant Anya. The facts show that Planned Parenthood is a major provider of women's healthcare in this state. Look up the facts or get someone you know who can read to do it for you.

No Insurance, No Service at UTMB Galveston
UTMB is not a corporate, for-profit hospital. It’s a tax-exempt public hospital that received $204.2 million in taxpayer funds and $8.4 million from the state indigent care fund last year. Yet UTMB spent just 3.3 percent of its revenue in 2010 on charity care, according to the new report co-authored by Dr. Lenihan’s group and Gulf Coast Interfaith, a nonprofit affiliation of faith-based and community organizations. Other public hospitals in Texas on average spent about 14 percent of revenues on charity care, while for-profits spend about 2 percent annually.
.... is there something wrong with this picture? Of course there is. What is happening here to the Taxpayers money?

""The practical point," he added, "is if the physician and patient are in the room, who’s going to know?""
Republicans will have sting operations to catch doctors who are giving unauthorized information to their patients and what doctor is going to risk his license for the sake of a mere woman.
