San Antonio Republicans Export a Senate Seat
A significant number of Republicans and business leaders in San Antonio decided last year that they would like to replace their longtime state senator.
They got what they were after, sort of, when Republican primary voters chose Donna Campbell in Tuesday’s runoff. She’s a transplant who lived in Columbus before moving to New Braunfels to qualify as a district resident. That means the San Antonio folks succeeded in moving the district’s home base out of their city and into the next county to the north. And they got a candidate who is beholden not to the San ...

Wentworth opposes the 3 day posting rule until he needs it for his own purposes and then he votes to suspend. In addition to the public scolding he gave TSU he laid into former state rep Bryan McCaul who got the job, sent a letter to TAMU on his senate letterhead telling them what job title he wanted and how much he expected to make, he invested in an illegal pyramid scheme where he focused on getting lobbyists and his state staff to buy in, he is one of the worst skirt chasers in the senate, and lived off of his campaign donors. His caucus would regularly lock him out of meetings because he couldn't be trusted and would share info with his democrat colleagues. The list goes on and on. This guy is more deserving of a spot in a Texas prison than he is a Texas senate seat. Good riddance. SD 25 is better off without him.

The conservative Perry won't appoint Wentworth. Like every other republican he too will be happy to have that tool out of Austin.

Wentworth should run as a Democrat

The writer assumes that Dr. Campbell will have no trouble being elected senator in the general election. I question that assumption.
Dr. Campbell faces, in Democrat John Courage, a qualified and energetic opponent. Mr. Courage will draw a large proportion of independent voters and more than a few moderate Republicans, who are wary of Dr. Campbell's radical social and fiscal austerity positions. Depending on turnout, there could well be an upset in this race.

“I have not yet begun to fight”
Only a few days after her Republican Primary runoff victory Donna Campbell is being touted as “as good as being elected” to take the Senate seat representing the voters of District 25. Before one general election vote is cast, before a discussion is held, before a comparison is made, before the 500,000 other registered voters in the 25th Senatorial District even have an opportunity to consider who to vote for, the San Antonio and Austin media is ready to anoint MS. Campbell, a virtual unknown, as our Senator. Our vote and our voice and our concerns are insignificant, because the Tea Party has chosen its Senator and the rest of us don’t matter a lick.
Well I for one have something to say about that. In the words of the great American Patriot John Paul Jones, “I have no yet begun to fight”.
I want the other half million voters in this district who do not belong to the Tea Party to have a say in this election. They too have a right to be represented in Austin. They deserve a Senator who will represent their concerns; a Senator who will represent all Texans. District 25 residents deserve a Senator who will represent all of us regardless of whether we lean left, right or straight down the middle. We do not need a person who will only represent the extreme ideology of a vocal minority.
I have lived, worked, raised a family, volunteered, served, worshiped, spoken out, celebrated and buried friends and family in San Antonio and Bexar County for over 40 years. I have worked, and played, and educated myself, and my children, from Austin to San Antonio, and everywhere in between in the district.
I intend to campaign until the last hour of Election Day November 6th. I want to listen to the voters of our district and hear their concerns. I want to inform and educate them about my candidacy and what I will do to represent them in Austin. I will knock on doors, call on the phone, speak publicly and privately to every voter of any persuasion who is willing to listen or talk with me, about the real issues that confront our district. Texas faces challenges in dealing with our moral obligations to provide an excellent education to our children, water for ourselves and future generations, and health care for all citizens, as well as transportation and energy for a 21st century economy. I will fight for common sense solutions for these challenges when I go to the Texas Senate.
With the voters approval I intend to win this race. I want to serve in the Texas Senate for every individual, for every family, for business big and small, and for a brighter and more prosperous future for all residents of District 25.
Respectfully Yours,
John Courage

Donna Campbell is no more a Tea Party Patriot than Wentworth. She is a tool of the Big Medicine/Big Pharma and is going to vote the best interest of mega-bucks interests and the highest bidder. If anyone has been "had" it is the Tea Party folks that worked so hard to get her elected.

While Donna Campbell may well be approved of by the TEA Party faction within the Republican Party it's pretty clear that TEA Party affiliation is a mixed blessing in general elections, look at Sharron Angle in Nevada who snatched defeat from Harry Reid and who can forget Christine O'Donnell who won her primary only to hand Democrat Chris Coons a Senate seat that everyone believed was an easy Republican pickup.
As pointed out by Brian Chasnoff in the Express News August 2, Campbell's fiscal views are extremely radical. She calls for eliminating property taxes which are half of all school funds and even if they're replaced with state money from other sources that just takes away the local control that Texas is so proud of. Education is a very high priority for people in this district who often moved into these communities on the basis of the school quality. Threatening education with uncertain funding isn't the way to win the hearts and minds of the voters here.

Voters in Senate District 25 should take a close look at John Courage who is a career teacher with 20 years of classroom experience. He knows what it takes to educate our children and further cuts state funding when we're already 48th in the nation isn't part of that program.
John Courage knows we have a moral obligation to the children of this district and the entire state and will work to insure that our obligation is met.

I truly believe that a significant number of Republican woke up on Wednesday morning totally flummoxed with the results of this runoff. Some of course will vote for Campbell simply because she is the Republican nominee, but also believe that many will either not vote, vote Libertarian or vote for John Courage, especially if they look into his background. He is not an extremist and he is a strong supporter of education. Too many Texans are concerned about the state of public education for their children and grand children. Additionally, I have heard nothing from Dr. Campbell about any of the other serious issues we Texans face like water, energy, etc. She simply repeats a mantra of Patriotism and goes around proclaiming God told her to run this race. Did God make a mistake when he told her to run for the US Senate and then correct himself and tell her to switch to the TX Senate?

Donna Campbell does not represent the voters of Texas Senate District 25. Moved from Columbus, Texas to New Braunfels? I think not! John Courage has invited you to debate if its not too far for you to journey back to this (not your) district.
Donna Campbell has wrapped herself in CPAC funding. She has been bought and paid for. She is wrapped up like barbed-wire. Encapsulated and under their complete control. A puppet but really more like a bobble head.
She will not be representing the interests of the people in District 25 - rather, she will be striping us of our fundamental rights. Healthcare, education and any other issue that will benefit special interest groups.
We have a choice - the right choice - a moral choice. John Courage is that choice. He knows Senate district 25. He has lived and worked in San Antonio for over -40- years!
So those of you that would like to keep the Texas Senate Diestrict 25 seat to stay in San Antonio rather than export it to New Branfels need only vote for John Courage. No offense New Branfels.
