Planned Parenthood Sues to Halt Exclusion From Program
Planned Parenthood branches in Texas have filed a federal lawsuit in an effort to block their exclusion from the state's Women's Health Program.
After Texas' Republican leaders indicated their intent to start enforcing a state rule that bans "affiliates" of abortion providers from participating in the Medicaid-funded contraception and cancer-screening program, the Obama administration pulled federal financing from the program. Gov. Rick Perry has vowed that the state will find the money to continue the program without federal help — and that the rule banning Planned Parenthood clinics will stand. No clinics participating in the program have performed abortions ...

Long live Planned Parenthood!

'Cause that's what Texas needs: lawsuits from "non-profits" against the State.

They wouldn't be suing if the State didn't feel like telling women where they could and couldn't go to the doctor.

So men aren't supposed to speak for women on health issues....unless they are from pp?

Kill Planned Parenthood, they are murders.

When Planned is gone, they will be forgotten. Check out the Texas Tribune interact map of WHP providers. In every region of state the relatively few Planned Parenthood sites are immersed in a sea of alternate providers. http://www.texastribune.org/library/data/texas-womens-health-program-providers/

Texas should be taken straight to the cleaners by both Planned Parenthood AND by the Obama Admin.
Also, there are HARDLY ANY alternative health care providers outside of the state's four largest cities (the Dallas-Fort Worth area - which has two of those cities, Houston and San Antonio).
RH Reality Check researched this already, Joe.
When Planned Parenthood is gone, women will NO LONGER be able to get basic health care unless they go to one of those four cities - and considering that Texas is the second-largest state land wise, that would constitute to rides in excess of 500 miles in some cases!

To add to that, that is 500 miles ONE WAY, meaning that it will be 1,000+ miles round trip!

Hardly any of the red dots that appeared on the Texas Tribune web page (outside of the four metros I mentioned) provide even a tenth of the same wide range of health services for women that Planned Parenthood does.
Healthy Texan
No one is telling women where they can go to get their healthcare. If PP clinics have to close their doors because of cuts by both the state and the Obama Administration then one has to wonder whether or not those clinics were viable businesses to begin with.
I wonder where these non-profits are getting their money to sue the state. Perhaps that money would be better spent being put into their clinics that are closing instead of tilting a windmills.

The governor's office has issued one lie after another on this issue. First they keep telling us, they are "going" to find the millions to cover this expense. This after they were "forced" to gut public education and health funding during the least legislative session, and left large portions of medicaid unfunded. The Governor's office will "tell" you there are plenty of providers to meet the demand, yet from this very article we see that is NOT the case. Even in those situations where there are providers, there is not enough capacity to absorb the patient load from PP. The governor/tparty/gop, in a stunning display of malfeasance, decided to play politics with the health care of thousands (if not more) medically underserved women. As to the comments regarding where PP is getting the money to fight this political game of brinkmanship; it is coming from contributions by citizens (like me) who are deeply concerned about the state of Texas' decision to play politics with healthcare for the medically underserved. I look forward to PP's eventual success in the courts.

Bravo for Planned Parenthood. Those that still don't get it that this exemplary institution to aid women's health is not interested in anything other than women's health. Abortions are not their specialty! I am delighted to know that the fundie Susan G. Komen Foundation (tax write off for the wealthy, and hypocritical asses), are losing top people in the field of women's health daily, and will most likely fall to pieces now that people understand what they "stand for." And icky rick can kiss my a**.

It would have to be an absolute "NO ABORTION" contract. If anyone breaks this deal then it would mean NO MORE FUNDING! The American taxpayer should never have to be made accessories to infanticide by aiding & abetting anyone performing these terrible slaughters. I used to think 'Planned Parenthood' was where you went to get ways to prevent a pregnancy until the time was right and or a place to get information on having healthy, happy babies. If any church forbids birth control, they certainly condemn abortion and yet I met a woman who had three abortions because they could not afford any more children. They had five children! I suggested vasectomy for Papa but he didn't want to do that, she said and birth control pills were forbidden by the Catholic church. I did ask incredulously, if abortion was allowed by te church and she sheepishly saif 'no'.

So, Carol...what changed your mind? Your train of thought on Planned Parenthood ends without explanation. Cherry or Grape Kool-Aid??

@JC maybe she realized pp spends most of their money providing abortions
