The views of these Austin-based groups is not at all representative of what folks out in the hinterlands feel upon Vickery's departure. For one thing, there's no mention of which lobbying firm he'll be retiring to in order to capitalize on his government experience. There must be more former heads of TCEQ and its predecessors working as lobbyists than any other state agency. No mention of the flexible permit fiasco. Or the lack of regulations keeping up with the gas boom, or the state's major cities still failing to have safe and legal air to breathe for going on two decades now. He served the state in the same way a waiter serves the main course, right onto industry's plate.
