Morton Prosecutor Says He is Victim of a Media War
Mike Davis, one of the original prosecutors who worked on the murder case against Michael Morton in 1987, said in court filings today that he is a victim of a media and political war between the exonerated man's lawyers and Williamson County District Attorney John Bradley.
Davis filed a motion to quash Morton's lawyers' request to interview him about his role in the trial that led to Morton's wrongful conviction and nearly 25-year imprisonment for his wife's murder. My favorite line in Brandi's article: "Further, Davis argued that Morton's lawyers' investigation of prosecutorial misconduct in the case is moot because the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals has already exonerated him." SAY WHAT? How does one claim, with a straight face, that an inquiry into prosecutorial misconduct can become moot simply because the defendant has been exonerated?

That's like saying that an inquiry by the State Bar into whether a lawyer neglected a client's legal matter is moot simply because the client fired him and found another lawyer who did not neglect his legal matter.

Over twenty years ago the Supreme Court of Texas enacted The Texas Lawyers Creed to govern how all Texas attorneys treat each other, clients, etc. Unfortunately, there is still a lot of bullying going on.

If Davis intentionally withheld information that could have led to Morton’s exoneration, Morton is entitled to know. Davis needs to give information under oath.
