Was it the latest in a string of campaign-trail mistakes, the gaffe of an inexperienced candidate outside the friendly confines of Texas, or a legitimate conversation starter for an issue now too large to ignore?

Rick Perry’s suggestion over the weekend that he might be in favor of sending the U.S. military into Mexico to help that country quell cartel-related violence elicited a variety of reactions, from outright dismissal to praise that Perry had brought the issue to the forefront of the presidential campaign.

If we are going to utilize troops , put them on this side of the border. While politicians debate the best ways to put people back to work and make this country secure , millions of Americans already have the answers. PUT THE BRAKES ON LEGAL IMMIGRATION , PLACE OUR MILITARY ON THE BORDER, AND DEPORT ILLEGALS AS FAST AS WE CAN FIND THEM. These actions will make this country as safe and secure as it can be, put an estimated 7 million Americans back to work, and stop more people from coming here for jobs we do not have. Alabama , Georgia , and Arizona have proven you can force illegals to self deport if you have the courage to enforce the law. This administration would have us all believe that Americans are too stupid and lazy to compete in the economy.Quit coddling 1/4 of the population and they WILL work. 3/4 of us do want to work, have always worked and always will step up and accept responsibility for our own needs. This is the mantra of the left as they promote the necessity of retaining illegal immigrants and the need to import more Legal immigrants . Already student visas are being extended for graduates to remain here and go to work and more are being encouraged to come. the theory being that , the more the better, and these people will create jobs and stimulate the economy . This is simply a ploy to get more people on the government dole, dependent and voting in line with those encouraging that dependence. Let Mexico sink or swim on their own dime. Fix our problems at home before we worry about anyone else .

I say pull the troops out of Iraq and Afghanistan and put them on the U.S./Mexico border. On the border, not into Mexico. Let Mexico deal with their own problems themselves.

Blood is being spilled in the USA as a result of the cartels already. It is amazing to me that anyone would believe that a head-in-the-sand approach is the correct course of action. That Perry wants to meet it head on is a credit, not a detriment. By turning a blind eye to it, all you are doing is condoning the cartels and their horrific actions. And Perry, doesn't control the ATF or Border Control - their actions are accountable to Obama. If you are mad at the way our borders are currently controlled, blaming Perry is a waste of time. Look north to Washington instead.

I kind of appreciate the fact that Gov. Perry is suggesting that the U.S. might send troops into Mexico to fight the drug lords this early in his campaign. He said the same thing earlier this year and most folks did not notice…Of course then he wasn’t running for an office where he might have the power to do just that. At that time I thought he was trying to model himself on Woodrow Wilson—the last U.S. President to send troops into Mexico (with no positive effects)…But now I just realize that he is trying to follow the pattern established by the last two Republicans from Texas we elected as President both of whom gave the U.S. the same two things---a War and a Recession. Rick is just giving us advance warning about which war he will start. Perhaps if we ask nicely he will also tell us when his recession will begin.

I think it is good this issue is highlighted. However fear not the message, but the messenger. This Mr. Perry has advanced a proposal in his book that would dismantle the United States and would stop it from mounting the very action he proposes as the Federal government would not have the money.
Therefore these statements appear to be these statments are rooting in the ultimate hypocracy and are calculated to enhance his political fortunes, not help us or solve this problem.
Mr. Perry has proposed in his book to return our countries governing structure to that prior to the civil war, to a time when were were not more than a gaggle of arguing states. From world domination to the stature of Brazil is the path he would lead us on.
This man with his closet KKK agenda is a danger to our freedom, our prosperity and our country. We do not need to return to the days when the Old South ran our country.

We may have to go back there to correct this mess we are in. I still think we did not do right by the slaves we should have made sure they were returned back to there homeland were they did not have to put up with America.
