Perry's Anti-Abortion Stance Has Grown More Insistent
In the spring of 1999, state Sen. Judith Zaffirini approached then-Lt. Gov. Rick Perry on the chamber floor, wielding a green vote tally card. Zaffirini, a Catholic, anti-abortion Democrat from Laredo, had taken a count, she told Perry, and the Senate was just a couple of votes away from passing a bill requiring parental consent for a minor to have an abortion.
With a little persuasion, she told Perry, he could get those votes. Instead, Perry continued working to pass a less stringent measure, Zaffirini says, one that required parents be notified before a minor terminated a pregnancy — but not ...

Perry is a hypocrite of the first order. Furthermore, anyone who has presided over more than 200 executions can not be called "pro-life".

So much for smaller government. Hypocrite!

"Kinder, kuche, kirsche" (children, kitchen, church) was where those evil ol' 3rd Reichers wanted to keep women... sounds like a teaparty slogan to me!

Perry hates women and loves killing innocent animals. What a jerk and a joke.

When, dear God, is the discussion about unwanted pregnancies going to turn to the men responsible for these pregnancies?

Perry's insistence on small government, except, of course, with regard to women's reproductive rights, and his love of "life", except, of course, for the lives of those he executes, sum up his hypocrisy. What a joke, but he's not funny-he's scary.

Not pro-life, just anti-choice

To paraphrase Rick Perry, "Every life lost to medical recklessness or gross negligence is a tragedy - a great disappointment to all Texans who stand in defense of life." This man had absolutely no qualms about protecting reckless, killer doctors and who passed Tort Reform which robbed victims or their survivors of the right to seek accountability. In Texas, doctors have a license to kill and maim and KNOW that their victims have absolutely no legal recourse. What a sad commentary for a state who claims to value life so highly.

Governor Perry's actions speak louder than words as Alice Ramshaw's article abundantly documents.
Many of us including politicians go through a learning curve about the evil of abortion and the huge political minefield the issue has become. What is forgotten are dead babies, wounded, hurt women.
Read the horror stories of what legalized abortion is in America in LIME 5.
Re Debra Haas' comment ... yes, Ms. Haas you can absolutely be pro-life and support capital punishment. There is a world of difference between the killing of <innocent> unborn
humans developing in their mother's womb (who can be legally killed through all nine months) and
condemned, violent criminals guilty of capital crimes. While the Catholic Church sets a high bar against capital punishment, state-sanctioned executions are not deemed INTRINSIC MORAL EVILS. Abortion IS! It belongs to the prudential judgment and proper authority of the state to either allow or ban executions. I believe, as my Catholic faith teaches according to what Pope John Paul II has written, that state-sanctioned executions should be extremely rare, when the crime is so heinous and so barbaric and guilt proven without a scintilla of doubt that it cries out to Heaven for justice! The brutal rape, torture, and murder of an innocent child comes to mind.

Pro-abortion advocates have nothing to fear from Rick Perry. Perry can become whatever he needs to be depending upon what he wants to achieve. Three years ago when he thought it might gain him the vice-presidential nomination he began campaigning actively for then candidate Rudolph Guiliani. Guiliani made no qualms about being pro-abortion and announced it far and wide. Absolutely no real pro-lifer would stoop that low no matter what his personal gain. When Guiliani's campaign flamed out. Guiliani and Perry then hoped over the then front runner John McCain who himself has a spotty record on abortion. This is not the only instance of Perry's hypocricy by a long long shot. Check his record. If you are a Republican don't fooled by Rick Perry's smooth talk, because that's the way we got Bill Clinton and Barack Obama.

it is always amazing when people who spew religion and god's name for everything are the very ones who accord the rich more generosity than they do the poor, elderly, sick, children...abortion is a personal, private matter and anyone who spouts that government needs to get out of the way, should understand that they are speaking about themselves. when religion is introduced into politics these very issues are dredged up and women are usually caught in the crossfire...abortion is a very painful, personal decision - and no one - not a person outside of the dr's office and this woman's clergy need participate...especially not some delusional evangelical hypocrite who cannot distinguish that the constitution accords all of us the separation of church and state

I can only imagine the time it has taken Sevilla to go from orphanage to orphanage and foster home to foster home rounding up all those kids who were abandoned and given them homes to care for them...oh no, i forgot, the evangelicals only care what happens in-uterus...once out, they are not welfare babies to be scorned and ridiculed and have their benefits cut - how christian

Dear Patricia BIrd,
So much for civil discourse. Is sarcasm the only mode of communications you've mastered from when, high school days? FYI - I'm not an evangelical but don't let that get in the way of your prejudices.
For the record, I was the executive director for a crisis pregnancy center in New Mexico. Yes, our organization facilitated adoptions. Unfortunately my wife and I are too old to adopt according to the local agencies. But at 61, we still have an 8 year old at home :) Its unfortunate how difficult it is to adopt children in the U.S. I have childless friends who've had to go to the Philippines, Romania, Korea, Russia to adopt a child at enorrmous expense. Sad but true. There are approximately 2 million American couples who struggle with agency bureaucracies to adopt a child in America. There are incidences where native American tribes and African-American agencies won't allow white couples to adopt from their agencies. So Patricia, why don't you go express your outrage at these agencies it's morally bankrupt to leave children in orphanages rather than placing them in homes outside their ethnic communities?

Dear Patricia Bird (Part II),
Regarding your views about abortion... why is it homicide when a violent crime is committed against a pregnant woman and the perpetrator tried for the murder or manslaughter of her dead unborn child?
Do you not understand the schizophrenic judicial system operating in this country? It's OK to kill your child in utero (through all nine months of pregnancy by the way) if the mother approves of the killing but it's murder if she doesn't. Is this not the classical definition of barbarism? The late term capital of America is now Albuquerque where late term abortionist George Tiller's abortion staff moved to after he was killed. They kill babies in abortion pioneer Curtis Boyd's office beyond viability for $3,000. (Dr.) Shelly Sella who operates at the Albuquerque office, after a botched abortion, stabbed a baby to death. Because you refuse to acknowledge the evil of abortion, doesn't mean it isn't happening. Thank goodness for the digital age... the evidence is ample on the net for anyone honest enough to open their eyes to the horrors of abortion. Educate thyself, Patricia.
