Austin Protesters Rally Against Perry
While Gov. Rick Perry and his supporters prayed in Houston, several hundred protesters rallied against him on the grounds of the state Capitol on Saturday afternoon.
The Travis County Democrats organized a march through the streets of Austin from the historic Victory Grill to the south steps of the Capitol. Once there, protesters criticized Perry’s policies as governor. Several religious, community, state and national leaders joined the rally.
Andy Brown, chairman of the Travis County Democrats, said the demonstration was scheduled to coincide with The Response, but was intended to be anti-Perry, not anti-prayer.

"Does that hair have a birth certificate?" That sign seen being carried at the protest (protesting WHAT?) is so typical of "NO CLASS" liberals. So the new norm is to judge a person by their hair? How is that any different than judging a person by the color of their skin? Liberals have a double standard for everything and it is really starting to get old....It's past time the liberal MORONS got called out on it and exposed for what you are....

Doggett is so irrelevant and this demonstration was pathetic. I don't like Castro but I sure do hope he gets elected so we can finally get rid of this stain on Texas name Lloyd Doggett.

I said months ago that Rick Perry MUST be stopped before he starts believing those people with deep pockets who want to see him as president. BECAUSE THEY DON'T KNOW ANY BETTER! We the TRUE Texans must unite and make America aware of this man! He will drop this country down on it's face! This is not what we need now, it is in bad enough shape without having Rick Perry take office. Lloyd Doggett is correct in saying that we need to warn people about the governor’s track record in public policy if he declares his presidential candidacy. “We need a truth squad carrying the message”.
He is also corect for lambasting the governor for cuts to public and higher education, his battles over federal aid, and failure to address health care concerns from toxic emissions. These are truths that have been brought out by the media. The media also recently brought out that Rick Perry's "The Response" event was attended by some of Perry's most influential financial supporters. Coincidence? By the way, I am neither Democrat nor Republican. I just know a rat when I see a rat! I hope that Lloyd Doggett makes it known publicly if he does organize a truth squad, I would be interested in participating.

Rick Perry is a hypocrite opportunist. "The Devil selling crosses."

I think the Tribune summed this up very accurately. I was at the march and rally. It was a good matured crowd of Texans who felt like it was important to tell the rest of America about our experience with Perry at the helm. After his years in leadership, we rank at the top of almost every category of the "misery index". The speakers today were inspiring and uplifting. There were calls to act in a way that is called for in all the major religions and in being a decent human being. The call to love others and treat them as you would like to be treated often means helping the poor, weak, sick to have the basic necessities that provide dignity.
Perry's attendance at today's prayer meeting was exclusive to those who professed Jesus as their savior, and it was not appropriate for the governor to make it an official event which he attended representing the state as Governor. He is not my spiritual leader, nor do his views or the views of those holding the prayer rally he attended represent my views of Christian behavior.

Interesting choice of pictures for a demonstration of 'several hundred'. Maybe the crowd wasn't as claimed or some of the signage wasn't 'appropriate'.
People whining about Perry attending a prayer service need to get a life. People rallying in opposition to him as a candidate IS appropriate.

I support people's right to protest, even when the protests are silly. Lloyd, shouldn't you be in Washington dreaming up new ways to raise our taxes?
Regarding truth, who's the last person you would turn to to get the truth? A politician!
Note to news photographer...when you guys say that hundreds protested, you should take a picture of the hundreds, not the three with goofy signs. That way, we don't have to just take your word for it.

I was there and these people ran off and assaulted veterans at this rally. they were there cause they don't like "PRICK PERRY" either. They are Ron Paul supporters, but because they don't bow down to obama they don't have freedom of speech? Hypocrites... See for yourself!!!!

Regarding the Ron Paul supporters. Good for them. Like I said in my earlier post, the "No CLASS" liberals have been getting away with this double standard long enough. They throw pies in faces of people they don't agree with, disrupt congressional hearings, and shout down conservative speakers "invited" to speak at college campuses. Oh they love freedom of speech as long as it's speech they want to hear. It's time for the up until now silent majority to be heard. Y'all hear me?

Was the goal of the Ron Paul supporter to attract all those very politically active rally attendees to consider voting for Ron Paul? Does the Paul campaign realize that instead of taking advantage of a group of hundreds of people who will almost surely make it to the polls in November, by engaging in reasoned debate, these guys flushed whatever interest might have been out there down the toilet?

"The march to the Capitol attracted 100 to 150 followers, and the numbers swelled to several hundred by noon, organizers said."
Amazing how these thing 'grow' around noon on Saturdays, when they can count all the tourists and students who come onto the grounds for lunch and the like.
As for any disruption by Ron Paul supporters: NOT good for them showing classlessness. It only brings them down to the level of the Code Pink buffoons who have no interest in real discourse. This is NOT a game of 'gotcha' ; this is a political determination of the fate of this country.
