Texas A&M Years Launched Perry — and a Rivalry
COLLEGE STATION — When Rick Perry arrived at Texas A&M University in 1968, it was at the end of a summer in which Soviet troops crushed the Prague Spring, protesters at the Democratic National Convention were met by a police riot and the United States reeled from the twin assassinations of Martin Luther King Jr. and Robert F. Kennedy.
With its conservative culture, military tradition and focus on agriculture, few places in the U.S. might have seemed more insulated from the prevailing currents of the age. But A&M was in the midst of its own political awakening.

Pitiful. For all the money George Soros pays you'all there at Texas Tribune, all you can come up with is Perry's college hi-jinks? Yawn!

You'all are starting to sound desperate!

And now this would get you thrown in Jail. Can we be retro active on this?

I have to agree Kevin. I would not vote for Rick but the Texas Tribune is really trying their best to derail him. First off the national media and even Texas Tribune tried to discredit him as once being a liberal democrat (which he was and still probably is) then they come out with article after article claiming him to be a "conservative" democrat.

Aaaah, the narrative is being formed. Perry as the unserious prankster from the bowels of Texas. Didn't you guys already use that one?

What the heck we elected a community organizer from the mean streets of Honolulu/NYC/Chicago - what damage could another Teaxn do. :)

Texas Trib, there be trolls here.

@ Matthew Witt - Let's see, based upon the last TX failure we sent, two wars, perscription drug, and massive tax cuts for the wealthy, another TX could do alot of damage. Let's not forget all the money we borrowed from the Chinese during the Bush years. As to Perry, if the 2006 Tax Swap is any further indication, he could do alot of damage.

Good story, Jay! And who in college didn't play some pranks? I'd be worried if he didn't. Now, can you dig up any pranks Pres O played in college? Or anyone who knew him?

What about the money we borrowed during the Clinton and Carter years? I never said Rick was worth and darn. (I think you need to reread what was written) Two more wars are going to be added by the current president and an even larger amount of money will be printed. We defaulted on the debt long ago, we are just borrowing and printing to pay the interest. There is not a difference between the two parties and if you think there is you must be kidding yourself. I just pointed out that the Texas Tribune seems to really get on a roll with Perry. He was a liberal (which they had an article stated that a few weeks ago) and then they had an article claiming him to be conservative (which he is not) just a few days ago.

I enjoyed the article...It provided a glimpse into a person's other side - the non-political side. To understand your public servants outside the political arena is important - it humanizes them. And who doesn't enjoy reading about college pranks - I imagine that we've all pulled a few. TT should be careful - portraying Perry as someone who had fun in college may change people's opinion of him.

Just what we need, another Texas draft dodger!
James Williams
Draft dodger? I thought he went active duty in the Air Force in '72, flew C-130's over Europe and the Middle East for a time, and left the service with rank of Captain in '77?

Texas Tribune writes about Texas Governor. Yeah, big conspiracy there!
