Perry's Rainy Day Fund? Used Up, Say Some Republicans
About 10 minutes into his speech in New Orleans last week, Gov. Rick Perry geared up for one of the afternoon’s many applause lines.
Taking a moment to praise his state, he told the audience at the Republican Leadership Conference that the Legislature had just balanced the budget — without raising taxes and while maintaining essential government services. “I might add that new budget leaves $6 billion in a Rainy Day Fund,” he said, to the delight of the crowd.
Perry hit the same refrain the week before in a speech in New York City.

So he's saying Rick Perry is BSing when he talks about there still being money in the Fund?

All the passing the buck around and bookkeeping shennanigans aren't gonna work if you don't increase revenue between now and the 83rd Leg. I don't get why they don't fix the root of the problem.

If this surprises you the slightest, you need to start paying attention.

It was gone the moment they decided to leave structural deficit in place for school funding AND defund medicaid. It will be gone and THEN SOME.

The only thing that surprises me is that we have allowed that buffoon to remain in office for 8 years!

How about we be thankful that we have a Rainy Day fund, to use now and in the future?

Well, Duh! The reduced funding of Medicaid from the federal level was precisely why this fight over the Rainy Day fund was had; everyone fighting to keep it knew this issue and it was hardly kept secret. Only people who wanted to spend it all were ignoring this glaring, public fact.

For all of their crowing and carrying on, the funniest part of this is the tea party faithful that have NO idea that Texas has a balanced budget on paper only through the use of smoke and mirrors and accounting tricks. my guess is their little heads will explode when they find out the truth.

Despite Mike's ongoing attempts to blame everything on this president, including TX failed budget problems; the truth is much different. The truth is that in 2006, Perry and the gop gutted Schooll finiancing and cut revenue claiming they were making up for it iwith other revenue....The gop Comptroller predicted that we would be running a 25 billion dollar deficit. So, despite the tparty reactionary dogma, this budget and the fact they have LIED TO US AGAIN as to the disposition of the rainy day fund is SQUARELY in the gop/tparty court. So despite anyone lying to you and blaming the President, or anyone else, they broke it and they bought it!
