Senate OKs "Reptile Bill"
The Senate passed the "reptile bill" today, which creates regulations for hunters who want to collect snakes and toads along Texas highways.
Lawmakers unexpectedly outlawed collecting reptiles and amphibians along roadsides years ago, said Sen. Carlos Uresti, D-San Antonio, sponsor of the bill. Since then, hotels and rural communities in his district have reported losing millions in tourism dollars, he said. “We don’t want to kill the snakes and the horny toads along the roadway, but we want to allow those individuals who love to hunt these reptiles and amphibians … to do that along the roadside.”

I am happy about this. I, personally, like to do this just to see the animals. I don't want to collect them or hurt them, but like to take pictures and see what kind they are. Like of like Herp bingo. Also, I and some others I know just want to move the animals off the road. People have gotten ticketed for just moving animals because it was considered they were "hunting them." I know some people might be dumb and try to hurt the animals or kill them, but for the most part I am happy.

I don't like to hunt reptiles and amphibians along the side of the road, I certainly did not know that it was illegal. I thought that this was appropriate summer time activity for 10 year old boys. But really with everything else that the House and Senate have to debate and make decisions on, this and "Noodling" catching fish with your hands, (or more accurately, sticking your hand in their mouth and letting them chomp down, then pulling them out of the water) is important legislation? That effects Tourism? Surely you jest? Of course the real idiots were the ones that made it illegal in the first place.
