Map Visualizes Speed Limits by State
The Texas House today passed a bill allowing Texas Department of Transportation to study whether to increase the speed limit on certain highways to 85 miles per hour.
Texas already has some of the highest limits in the country for certain rural segments of interstates: 80 miles per hour. We wondered how other states compared, so we created this simple interactive map using speed data from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, a nonprofit group known for its scientific analysis of death, injuries and damage data on the nation's major roadways.

When your vehicle goes faster, it uses more gasoline no matter what the make and model. Sounds like this is the best the legislature can come up with in increasing the gas tax revenue.
