TribLive: Thompson on Gambling, Race and the Democrats
For our most recent TribLive conversation, I interviewed state Rep. Senfronia Thompson, D-Houston, the longest-serving woman the longest-serving African-American in the history of the Legislature — and the longest-serving Democratic member currently in the House. Three extended clips from the interview — about gambling, how Democrats can regain their mojo and race and party ID — are attached below. Full audio can be found here.

Amen Ms. Thompson...I am glad some of our State Reps have seen the light. Our legislators wring their hands and cry woe is me and Texas needs new revenue. Then they promptly deny the overall bvenefits of full-blown casinos. Ms. Thompson laid out the truth. Billions in investments, thousands of new jobs, billions in individual income, billions in State Taxes, and overall the collateral benefits far outweigh the imagined potential problems. One thing for sure ... Texans are tired of watching Texas billions depart each month for other States. The Texas lawmakers need to abandon the "Ostrich" approach to problem solving and let Texas Voters decide if they want full-blown casinos or not.
