Texas OKs New Wind Power Transmission Lines
Texas is in the midst of a wind-power boom, and at the heart of it lies a conundrum: While plenty of ranchers are eager to host wind turbines, few want the unsightly high-voltage transmission lines needed to carry the power to distant cities running through their property.
The lack of transmission lines — and the relatively low price of natural gas — has thwarted the ambitions of wind-power advocates to expand the use of this alternative energy source in Texas. The oilman T. Boone Pickens, for example, bet heavily on wind a couple of years ago, ordering hundreds of turbines and announcing ...

Why can't they run the electric lines along side the highways?

The economics of wind energy are as poor as ethanol. Without the government subsidizing this boondogle it would never get to first base. The inefficiencies of long transmission distances are well documented as yet the government has chosen to ignore this issue and allocate resources in a uneconomic manner. Please report on these inefficencies and ill advised subsidies.

If gas or clean gas is much cheaper, along with nuclear energy, why aren't these baseload energy sources given priority? Wind capacity is still far below any baseload energy source capacity. Transmission lines are an added cost and an added intrusion on valuable land.
The Renewable energy standards must be re-visited. It makes no sense to promote an energy source (wind) that has not proven to significantly reduce baseload energy fuel or pollution. Isn't that what they are supposed to do?
Wind turbines cannot stand alone and produce that ___%. They are dependent at all times on another energy source. Let's invest in that and give citizens the best value for their money and stop covering every inch of valuable land with invasive high voltage lines and turbines.
