Replace the RR Commission, Sunset Report Says
The Sunset Advisory Commission's staff report on the Texas Railroad Commission, released today, recommends getting rid of the agency and replacing it with a similar entity headed by five gubernatorial appointees.
The new agency would be called the Texas Oil and Gas Commission — a more accurate name than the Railroad Commission, which long since ceased regulating railroads and now oversees oil and gas work. I would rather have the opportunity to vote for the comissioners of this agency. Why don't they just change the name of the Railroad Commission to the Texas Oil & Gas Commission and save some $?

Bad idea on so many levels. Unaccountable government bureaucrats regulating Texas' oil and gas industry? The exact opposite of what we need.

And we would want an appointed board instead of elected representatives because??????
We see how well that works with the Texas Transportation Agency. Keep the elected reps. We can vote them out if needed. How about closing the Public Utility Commission and giving the duties to the Railroad commission? I am sure they would not like that. We have a new guy elected to office now. Let us see what changes he will make. Revamp the agency, but NO appointed Board.
