Texas AG Asked to Rule on Transgender Marriage
The El Paso County attorney wants the state's top lawyer to tell her whether she can issue a marriage certificate to a woman and a biological male who had a sex change operation to become a woman.
County Attorney Jo Anne Bernal, in a letter sent last month, asked Attorney General Greg Abbott if the Texas ban on gay marriage prevents her from giving a marriage license to Sabrina Hill, who was born Virgil Eugene Hill, underwent sex change surgery in 1991, and is now seeking to marry a woman.

My friend David Estlund is transgender. And he is the sweetest person ever. He deserves all the love and support he can get. It's a tough life for him. So he should be allowed to marry whomever he wants.

Texas Constitution CLEARLY states marriage is between ONE MAN and ONE WOMAN. We voted on this issue a few years ago. If the man that turned into a woman legally changes his identity to a woman's identity, he/she can not marry another woman. You can't have it both ways.

Chris: If the case were so clear, the county clerk wouldn't be seeking guidance on the issue. The only thing that's clear is that it's not.

Why on earth does anyone care who marries whom? Straight, gay, lesbian, transgendered, bi or whatever shouldn't matter. If two people love each other and want to marry it shouldn't be of concern to anyone but the two people involved. (And yes, I'm straight, but not narrow!)

Thanks Doris, I agree. Unfortunately a lot of people are meddlesome. They like to judge. If you point a finger at someone you're pointing three fingers back to yourself.

And Chris, who cares what the bigoted law states. It's a dumb law, voted in by lots of bigoted people. I'm glad that your life is so black and white (one man, one woman) but for some people it doesn't work that way. Life is complex.

Yes! You go, David Estlund! Nobody should care who or what he is, nor if his stage name is Lola. He's one of God's creatures, and he can marry whomever he wants (which happens to be a black little-person, who is also the sweetest guy, with a great gig in Vegas). He just happened to fall in love with David, who happens to be transgender. What's the big deal? By the way, David is saving up to "go all the way" with his surgery. Words of encouragement are MOST appreciated, and donations are certainly welcome. 512-499-8248, extension 202.
